Better to Learn the Lesson Sooner Rather than Later
Gutters are not just in place to look cute. Their purpose is to channel water away off the roof and away from the exterior walls, keeping water:
- Off the roof, so the weight doesn’t cause the roof to crash down
- Away from the exterior walls so it doesn’t erode the stone or the cement
- Away from the foundation so it doesn’t end up in the basement or the first floor
Other names for gutter are:
- Eavestrough
- Eaves-shoot
- Surface water collection channel
We’re not concerned that you learn about nomenclature, only that you learn to keep the gutters clear.
Still, water damage happens.
If it does, we are the ones to call. SERVPRO of Gold Coast/Lincoln Park/Lakeview has the depth and breadth of experience in remediation and restoration to make your house a home again.

We can’t get rid of memories of storms or bursting pipes but can help restore your home so you don’t see the physical damage.
Gutters, Gargoyles, and Grotesques, Oh My!
Back in the Middle Ages, architects and artists figured out nifty tricks for the water channeling systems on large buildings like castles and churches. They already had to build some of the channels at sharp angles on the roofs, so they sculpted fantastical creatures around them. Water poured out the mouths of the creatures, draining just as regular gutters.
People liked the figures so much that sculptors added them outside of water channeling systems, in which case the figures were grotesques.
Nifty, hey?
People who are artistic can create their own gargoyles or grotesques. The rest of us can buy them at home or garden supply stores.
If your loved still ones don’t know what you want for the upcoming holidays, and gargoyles or grotesques are appealing, you have time to show them this article – just saying – we don’t sell them, so it doesn’t benefit any of us.
